Revised plan for 614 apartments in Liverpool gets the go-ahead
Plans for a new apartment complex in Liverpool that will deliver hundreds of new homes near the city centre have received the go-ahead.
Property firm Bevington Developments secured the thumbs up for a multi-use scheme in Vauxhall that will house 614 apartments, commercial units, a residents’ gym and secure parking for cars and bicycles.
Spread across three buildings connected by landscaping, the scheme will comprise 106 studio flats, 382 one-beds and 126 two-beds.
The 1.7-acre site chosen for the project, located at the city centre’s northern boundary, was once partially occupied by the Street Martin’s Market.
Greg Malouf, managing director of Bevington, said: “Our vision for this apartment complex gives nod to the property’s heritage tied to the Street Martin’s Market with the tallest building acting as a beacon, providing a strong identity for the development, facing north on Scotland Road towards the city centre and the grouping of residences are unified with an enclosed multi-functional courtyard and gardens.”
The development’s buildings will rise to nine, 11 and 17 storeys.
Planning consultants at Zerum advised on the application, which is the second approved for the site.
Zerum director Nikki Sills commented: “Initially plans were to build student accommodation and since securing consent in April 2016, Bevington reviewed the scheme and amended it to comprise a mix of residential apartments that fulfill market demands and responds to the character of the surrounding area.
“The massing and scale of the blocks of apartments resemble the original designs, falling in line with similar-sized residential and industrial buildings to the east and west.”
Falconer Chester Hall is the architecture firm on the scheme.
Senior architect Robert Brym said: “This development will make a strong visual statement close to a busy route into the city centre, removing the considerable blight which currently exists.
“It will also demonstrate the confidence of further new investment into the city and help reinforce the appeal of the Commercial District by providing quality accommodation close to this important employment area.”
