Slow down! Local school children design road safety banners for housebuilder
26 children from Cherry Tree Academy visited Barratt Homes’ Ashmeade Park development in Pontefract last week, to see the road safety banner they helped create on display. The local housebuilder teamed up with the school earlier this year to celebrate Walk to School Week with a design competition.
The competition tasked the children with designing road safety signs and saw the winners named as Kiera, Heidi and Declan, all aged nine. The Year 5 class that took part in the competition recently visited Ashmeade Park to see the winning designs, proudly situated at the entrance of the development, urging drivers to slow down.
Sarah Dealtry, Year 5 teacher at Cherry Tree Academy, commented: “The children loved designing their road safety posters and it was great to see the banner in person. The girls were particularly delighted that their artwork is at the front of Ashmeade Park for everyone to see!”
Donna Hampton, Sales Adviser at Ashmeade Park, said: “We really enjoyed being involved with Cherry Tree Academy and this project to educate the children in road safety awareness. We hope to continue working closely with local groups in Pontefract as it’s important for us to contribute to the communities in which we build. Our new banner is brilliant and lots of passers-by are commenting on how great it looks!”
Ashmeade Park is a collection of stylish two, three and four bedroom homes situated a short five minute drive from Pontefract’s historic town centre, with a range of amenities close by. Homes are available to purchase from £139,995.
