Newcastle street party supports wildlife charity
Residents of Roundstone Close in Newcastle have presented Northumberland Wildlife Trust with a cheque for £150.
The money was raised as part of the ‘The Big Lunch’ - the UK’s annual get together for neighbours. Since it began in 2009, The Big Lunch, which is part of the Eden Project and supported by the Big Lottery Fund, has grown ten-fold and in 2016, 7.3 million people (14% of the population) took part in over 90,000 events.
The Roundstone Close lunch was organised by Trust supporters Pamela Roberts and her family. Over 100 residents, their families and friends enjoyed an afternoon of games including a good old fashioned sack race and three-legged race, tombolas and stalls raising £300 which was divided between two charities.
Lynette Friend, Northumberland Wildlife Trust Events Coordinator said: “Creativity and enthusiasm from residents in the community have turned ideas into a fun-filled family event. The generosity of so many, has resulted in valuable funds being raised and donated to us, a wildlife charity, for which we are very grateful.”
