Liverpool Girl Geeks embarks on national drive to help ‘innovators and entrepreneurs of tomorrow’
Liverpool Girl Geeks is embarking on a new drive to equip girls aged 11-17 with the skills and confidence to pursue a career in technology.
InnovateHer, a UK-wide initiative, will work in partnership with national policy makers, local government and businesses to establish a network of school-based academies and tackle a skills gap that costs the UK economy an estimated £63bn annually.
The programme will also focus on encouraging equality and diversity in technical roles as it seeks to pass that way of thinking on to the country’s next generation of innovators.
InnovateHer is an extension of Liverpool Girl Geeks’ work in the Liverpool City Region since it launched in 2013.
In the last year, the organisation has raised more than £100K in funding and engaged with over 15k people in the North West.
InnovateHer co-founder Jo Morfee said: “All children have the potential to be innovators, to create change and improve their lives and the lives of their peers.
“By encouraging young people to think differently, we’re investing in the innovators and entrepreneurs of tomorrow.”
The movement will officially launch in January 2018.
Jo continued: “This is an exciting new chapter for us and a real opportunity to take our learnings from Liverpool Girl Geeks and implement them on a national level.
“We’re keen to keep working with new and existing partners to make businesses and communities prosper, while harnessing the talent that is out there today.”
