Local businesses raise £70,000 to help tackle youth homelessness
Over 136 North West business people took part in Action for Children’s Byte Night this year, raising £70,000 to help young people at risk of homelessness.
Teams from businesses including KPMG, BNY Mellon, BT, McGregor Boyall, Civica, RBS and Barclays all bedded down in the fifth year that the fundraising sleep out has taken place in the North West.
BBC Breakfast’s Steph McGovern and sports presenter Mike Bushell joined Andrew Ellis from This Is England to wish sleepers good luck on the evening.
Byte Night North West Co-Chair and Director at KPMG UK, Jonathan Summerlin, said: “I can’t express how proud I was to chair the North West event. Our night was truly incredible. The stories shared by the extraordinary Young Ambassadors who joined us showed how the work of Action for Children is changing lives. It is humbling to play our small part in helping.
“The weather was not kind, reminding us all of the stark reality faced by the young people we are fundraising for – the resolve and camaraderie of the sleepers was wonderful, but this was just for one night.
“I can’t thank everyone enough who was involved in the event and shared the experience – an inspirational night with such a fantastic bunch of people. Their fundraising exploits have been phenomenal too.”
Matt Wells, Manchester site executive at BNY Mellon, said: “Action for Children is a brilliant organisation and we’re proud to again support its work across Manchester by joining the Byte Night sleep out. Having been based in Manchester for 12 years, we’re passionate about the ongoing development of the city, and making it a better, more inclusive place to live and work.”
