Launch of digital startup in Scarborough to create 16 'skilled' jobs

A female entrepreneur from Scarborough has set up a software company that aims to bring up to 16 new jobs to the area.

Jo Thompson, founder and owner of Spectrum Cleaning Solutions, has started a new venture with two fellow directors.

They said that after speaking to customers, the trio realised there was a gap in the market for a way to easily assess and record health and safety risk assessments with integrated competency training, in real-time.

After doing research and finding that there wasn’t anything available, they decided to build it themselves.

The new service, called CRAMS, was launched by Scarborough and Whitby MP Robert Goodwill.

CRAMS has been tested by a number of Yorkshire companies and will be available from next month.

The firm received funding from Business Enterprise Fund, Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund, Street UK and Scarborough Borough Council.

Jo said “Having seen our clients struggle with this problem for years and realised there was nothing there to help them, we decided to develop it ourselves.

“Building it in Scarborough was important to us as we’re passionate about helping the local economy grow. We’re creating a company that will offer well paid jobs to encourage young people to stay in or move back to Scarborough.

“As a board member of Scarborough Business Ambassadors Ltd, it’s great to be a part of a young business that will help to develop Scarborough into a dynamic, entrepreneurial town, alongside other initiatives such as the UTC.”

Robert Goodwill added: “I’m pleased to support the launch of this new software business in Scarborough, which will bring well-paid skilled jobs into the area and provide a model for further growth in the region. I wish Jo, Tim and Justin all the very best”.
