Anesco’s energy storage portfolio to exceed 380MW by 2020
Anesco is on track to more than quadruple its operational battery portfolio by 2020, as strong demand sees its order book swell to 380MW.
Several projects are currently under construction, including a 50MW installation in Hampshire.
According to Steve Shine, executive chairman, Anesco’s unique ability to model lifetime revenue streams, opportunities presented by the balancing mechanism and growing demand for storage retrofit have all been major factors in the company’s growth.
“We have long recognised the potential and importance of battery storage for the UK’s energy mix and have invested heavily in making sure it is a commercially viable option for investors and commercial organisations alike,” commented Steve.
He continued: “Having the ability to show how the figures stack up is crucial and has been a key differentiator for us. As the largest and most established provider in the country, we are in a unique position to analyse data from all our existing battery sites which we’ve combined with a comprehensive data set from energy market analysts Cornwall Insight.
“This has enabled us to create the most accurate modelling tool available, meaning we can predict whole life cost, IRR and long term revenue streams - the numbers that really count. Our batteries are performing above specification and are delivering a strong economic return for our customers”.
Anesco powered up the country’s first utility scale unit in September 2014 and now has 29 operational sites, comprising of 76 individual battery units, providing a combined capacity of 87MW. With a healthy order book, the total capacity installed by the company is set to exceed 380MW by 2020.
Steve added: “Since introducing the country’s first utility scale unit, we’ve not only focused on making the technology a commercially-viable proposition, but have invested in research and development which looks towards the evolution of the sector.
“We remain the first and only company to offer retrofit co-location with existing solar farms and are the only UK company to achieve subsidy-free solar. Our experience, combined with this strong track record, puts us in a great position moving forward.”
In the presence of the Minister of State for Energy and Clean Growth and gaining worldwide acclaim, Anesco officially opened the UK’s first subsidy-free solar farm in September 2017. The company’s solar farm portfolio now exceeds 101 sites, while its O&M service, AnescoMeter, currently monitors over 21,500 sites.
