‘Up there with the best’: Liverpool Airport completes £5m Departure Lounge upgrade
The final phase of a project to improve the departures experience at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) has completed.
LJLA invested more than £5m in a programme of improvements phased over the last 18 months.
The project spanned an area of around 21,500 sq ft within the airport’s Departure Lounge, with the latest phase costing more than £2m and delivering an expansion and redesign of the World Duty Free retail area.
A Traveller fashion store was also added in the final phase of the works, which followed last year’s introduction of new retail brands, shops, restaurants, bars and 13 flight information screens.
In total, the programme has created more than 50 jobs.
LJLA commercial director Lucy O’Shaughnessy said: “These latest improvements have been completed just in time as we enter the busiest part of the year for the Airport, with hundreds of thousands of passengers expected to pass through during the busy summer months.
“Having listened carefully to our passengers, we now believe we have passenger facilities here at Liverpool which are up there with the best of any UK regional airport.”
She added: “When combined with our recognised Faster, Easier Friendlier approach, Liverpool John Lennon Airport now gives a passenger experience second to none.”
The works form part of a vision for continued expansion at LJLA as far in the future as 2050.
