Dorset man helps South West businesses to clean up

A Dorset man has his sights set on helping businesses to clean up across the South West, after winning a promotion with a leading national company.

Richard Spreadbury, from Blandford, has been appointed regional technical sales manager for CSG, one of the UK’s biggest waste management organisations.

The 53-year-old will look after customers across Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Bristol, helping them find cost effective and environmentally-friendly solutions to their industrial waste materials.

Richard said: “This is an exciting time to be working in this sector, as public awareness of – and support for – recycling issues is higher on the agenda than ever before.

“Our company aim is always to minimise the volume of waste going to landfill, by re-processing and recycling as much as possible. We have a national network of specialist waste management facilities dedicated to handling both hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams from industry.

“Previously waste disposal was seen purely as a cost to businesses. However, technological advances mean we are now very often able to convert waste back into valuable materials for reselling, helping to create lucrative revenue streams for customers.

“I am looking forward to working with customers old and new across the South West, supporting their businesses and helping them to maximise the potential of what they would normally consider waste.”

Music, sport and classic car enthusiast Richard made the move into waste management in 1998, joining CSG’s sister brand J&G Environmental who serviced the printing and photographic industry after working as a French Polisher, restoring furniture and antiques throughout the UK & Europe

“My previous role in furniture restoring prepared me for working in a very customer-focused environment. When I was made redundant in March 1998 I was given an opportunity to join J&G on a three-month trial, and I’ve been in this industry ever since.

“With 20 years of experience and the opportunity to have account managed many of the UK’s largest print groups, this stands me in good stead for the challenge that lies ahead.

“This is a fascinating and very competitive sector to work in, with new challenges always such as changes in health and safety or environmental legislation. As a family-owned company, CSG is a very supportive employer to people who want to make a career in the industry.”

With its headquarters in Fareham, Hampshire, CSG is one of the largest privately-owned industrial and domestic environmental waste management groups in Britain, operating from 27 sites across the UK.

Amongst the specialist facilities the company operates in the region is a treatment plant in Saltash, near Plymouth, which recovers oil from oily waste water such as that collected during interceptor clearances from forecourts or distribution depots. The site also treats non-hazardous aqueous wastes.
