University of Huddersfield sheds light on £71m campus transformation
The University of Huddersfield has revealed that £71m of construction works are currently transforming its campus.
The projects, overseen by the university’s department of estates and facilities, include the creation of a new £18.2m science block, £2m electricity substation and £2m art cafe.
The largest project will deliver the £30m Barbara Hepworth Building – a new home for the university’s School of Art, Design and Architecture.
Morgan Sindall is the contractor on the scheme, which saw its foundation stone laid early in 2018 by the Duke of York and is due for completion in July 2019.
Already completed is the £8.3m refurbishment of the Joseph Priestley Building, where the university’s School of Applied Sciences is based.
Other improvement works include a £400k makeover at the Charles Sikes Building, home of the Huddersfield Business School; £500k overhaul of the university library; £500k upgrade of the lifts across three of the campus’ main buildings; and a £100k project to bring a car park on Wakefield Road back into use.
