Staff from Christeyns help adventure playground reach new heights
Staff at Bradford-based laundry chemical manufacturer Christeyns took a day out from their busy schedules recently to help rejuvenate the Big Swing Adventure Playground in Eccleshill.
Christeyns, which has its head office in Rutland Street, offers all its 130 members of staff the opportunity to take paid leave in order to volunteer at community related projects and charitable enterprises across the local area.
On this occasion 10 members of staff spent a day carrying out an extensive range of tasks including painting, gardening and building and repairing wooden play structures. Luke Dennison and Anthony Waddington from the charity Participate facilitated the day.
The Big Swing Adventure Playground, also known as Eccleshill Adventure Playground, is an open-access playground for children and young people aged five to thirteen. It is the only adventure playground in the Bradford and Leeds area and children have the opportunity to take part in more traditional adventure type play, structured around the elements of earth, wind, water and fire. Activities include den and structure building, team games, cooking campfire style and trying out the zip wire.
The Big Swing is a registered charity and provides free evening and weekend play sessions as well as family sessions on Saturdays. “We are a small charity and rely heavily on donations and volunteers”, said Jenny Turner, Senior Playground Coordinator. “The playground provides an essential part of life for the surrounding community and the families and children who visit. We would not be able to keep it in a safe and useable condition without help from companies such as Christeyns.”
Jayne Talbot, Christeyns Environmental, Health & Safety Manager, commented, “At Christeyns we are committed to making a difference in the local community and by doing so enriching the lives of our own employees. We were delighted to be able to support The Big Swing in maintaining this amazing facility which offers so much for families in the area.”
Christeyns UK is part of the Christeyns group, based in Ghent, Belgium. Its principal focus is the manufacture and supply of detergents and supporting chemicals for the commercial laundry sector across the UK in which it is the market leader.
