Flowbird Terminals Monitoring Air Quality and Noise Pollution
Technology that monitors roadside air quality and noise pollution in towns and cities featured on the Flowbird stand at last month’s Parkex exhibition.
The ‘Park & Breathe’ module, which is integrated into Strada PAL terminals, is already delivering real-time environmental data in applications in Europe and the first UK scheme is currently in planning ready for launch in the next few months.
The system is capable of capturing data for airborne emissions such as CO2 as well as measuring noise levels in urban areas, and is being introduced to assist local authorities in monitoring pollution ‘hot-spots’ and developing appropriate clean air strategies. Data captured by the solar-powered Strada terminals is relayed in real time to a secure online portal.
“Air quality is a major concern for government, local authorities and environmental agencies, and this application provides an effective way of capturing and analysing key pollution data using an existing infrastructure that is ideally situated alongside road networks,” says David Lloyd, Flowbird Marketing Manager.
“‘Park & Breathe’ demonstrates the value of investing in parking terminals that are in effect open platform multi-service kiosks capable of integrating with smart third party systems.
“Critically, because the terminal network is already established and positioned in populous areas, applications such as environmental monitoring can be introduced for the benefit of towns and cities and their communities without the need for huge additional infrastructure investment.”
