School takes wraps off new mosaic
A Mansfield school has unveiled a new piece of artwork after being gifted funding from a Nottingham housebuilder.
Farmilo Primary School and Nursery received the £1,000 donation from Persimmon Homes Nottingham, courtesy of the housebuilder’s Community Champions scheme.
The initial donation was put towards the materials for the mosaic – and both staff and pupils have been working hard to make the artwork a reality.
Every member of the school has had a hand in the mosaic, which is positioned outside the newly built entrance and will form part of the gateway to the school.
Suzanne Tryner, headteacher at Farmilo Primary School and Nursery, said: “It’s been a real team effort to get the mosaic finished and we’re thrilled to finally unveil it!
“We’re so pleased with how it has turned out and we can’t thank Persimmon Homes Nottingham enough for their help.
“It’s a great time for Farmilo, with the mosaic commemorating the fantastic growth of the school.”
Artist, Clare Taylor, from Bus and Birds Arts was brought in to help the students create the mosaic and used brightly coloured tiles to recreate the school logo, shaped as a rainbow.
Neil Follows, managing director for Persimmon Homes Nottingham, said: “It’s really important for us to support schools in the areas in which we build, with our Weavers View development just a stone’s throw away in Pleasley.
“Farmilo School has a reputation that is second to none and we’re so pleased to see the result of all their hard work.
“Community Champions gives us the chance to support two good causes each month, so we would encourage any charity or community group to apply for funding on our website.”
