Construction group Interserve lands £4m Highways England deal
Support services and construction group Interserve has landed a multi-million pound contract to overhaul a busy roundabout in Southampton.
The £4m deal with Highways England will see the company upgrade the M271 Redbridge roundabout, located near Southampton Docks.
Interserve will create a free-flow, left-turn lane from the M271 to the Port of Southampton, while its infrastructure division will carry out road-widening works to create four lanes on the roundabout.
Congestion is an issue in this area of Southampton, Interserve said. Vehicles on the M271 southbound average speeds of below 40 mph during peak hours.
Wayne Howell, Interserve’s sector director for highways, said of the deal: “We are delighted to have secured another Highways England contract after our recent success on the A63 Princes Quay in Hull.
“Our works on the Redbridge roundabout will benefit residents, businesses and ease congestion around Southampton docks.”
