S Harrison gets top marks with award shortlisting

A York-based development company has been shortlisted for a prestigious award in recognition of its work in the student accommodation sector. S Harrison, is one of just nine companies to have been selected in the ‘developer of the year’ category in the national Student Accommodation Awards, which are run by the leading commercial and residential magazine – Property Week. The winner will be announced at an award ceremony on the 12th December in London. S Harrison has been chosen as one of the leading quality developers in the student accommodation sector. The company has a wealth of experience in the sector after successfully completing four developments in York in recent years, totalling 984 beds. The developer is behind a 180 bed development in Leeds city centre known as Blenheim Point, a 240 bed student development in Edinburgh and a 63 bed scheme in Newcastle, totalling almost 1,500 student homes across the UK. Judged by a select group of expert industry representatives, S Harrison’s Blenheim Point development in Leeds and Percy’s Lane development in York’s Walmgate Conservation area have both been singled out as part of the award shortlisting. The three and four storey Percy’s Lane development includes a collection of unique, self-contained townhouses with their own front doors, similar to a traditional shared student house, but with a superb range of communal facilities including study spaces, gym, a cinema room, a games room and a courtyard area. All the scheme’s 106 bedrooms were instantly reserved, with students moving in for the 2018/19 academic year. Another stand-out scheme is the seven storey 60,000 sq ft Blenheim Point development, on Blenheim Walk in Leeds. Marking the first partnership between the University of Leeds and S Harrison, Blenheim Point is now fully occupied housing overseas post graduate students. The Director of Residential Services for the University, Ian Robertson, has praised S Harrison for its commitment to a partnering approach and for the design quality of the development, which was ready for the autumn 2018 intake. S Harrison’s Managing Director, Ann Scott, said: “We pride ourselves on delivering quality high-profile student accommodation schemes in sought after locations to an exceptional standard. The design and first-class specification of both Percy’s Lane and Blenheim Point really appealed to students, and this award shortlisting is a credit to the entire team. We are delighted to have our efforts and achievements recognised by such leading experts in the industry.”
