Regeneration begins on Hartlepool Waterfront
The first phase of a major regeneration project by Hartlepool Borough Council is due to start this week.
Hartlepool’s Marina area is the main focus of the project, with aims to transform the Waterfront into a landmark visitor destination complete with a range of leisure facilities.
Tees Valley Combined Authority have funded the Waterfront Masterplan, the initial phase of which includes the creation of a ‘linear park’ around the site with footpaths, greenery, seating and lighting.
This first development phase, costing £1.445m, is designed to attract visitors and investors to the site while longer term developments in the area are progressing.
Cllr Kevin Cranney, chair of the council’s regeneration services committee, explained: “As the Waterfront will be developed in phases over a period of time, it is important to deliver a series of initial projects to encourage use of the site, change the perception of the area and attract investment.
“The development of Hartlepool Waterfront as a landmark destination is seen as key to unlocking the full potential of the town’s visitor economy.”
