DIPLOMATIC VISITOR TO PORT OF TYNE
His Excellency Stefán Haukur Jóhannesson, the Ambassador of the Republic of Iceland to the United Kingdom, visited Port of Tyne yesterday (6 March).
The Ambassador and Clive McKeag, Consulate of Iceland in Newcastle upon Tyne were welcomed by the Port’s Harbour Master on-board a river trip.
Steven Clapperton, Harbour Master Director of Health and Safety, Environment and Marine, said: “We were delighted to host a visit of the Ambassador – who was interested in our growing cruise calls, the North Shields fishing fleet and developing trade links with North East England.
“Fortunately we were also hosting a cruise call from Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, allowing the Ambassador to take a closer look at our passenger operations.”
Following the visit, the Ambassador Tweeted, “Impressive excursion around the River Tyne. Thanks to the Port of Tyne who gave us an excellent insight into their innovative operations.
