Trafford Housing Trust donates £60k to The Toy House community hub

A Trafford community hub which provides support to families through inspired play has received just under £60k from Trafford Housing Trust’s Social Investment Fund.

The Toy House in Flixton received £59,349 to deliver a two year programme ‘Volunteering for Success’ which aims to support adults with learning disabilities through volunteering opportunities, so that they can progress onto employment.

Steve Hughes, chair of the Social Investment Board at Trafford Housing Trust, said: “Our Social Investment Fund supports local community projects which tackle poverty and inequality in Trafford. The Toy House was a worthy recipient of this funding as its Volunteering for Success project helps to develop the skills and confidence of people with learning disabilities in a way that meets their needs, so they can move onto an employment pathway. We were delighted to approve funding for this worthwhile project.”

The Toy House is a charity which runs stay and play sessions for 0-4 year olds, plus activities and sessions aimed at adults and older people. As well as being a specialist resource and toy lending centre, The Toy House includes a fully-equipped sensory room with lift access, plus a garden room for community events which is available for hire.

Lisa Cooke, chair of The Toy House, stated “We are delighted that Trafford Housing Trust is supporting us with this wonderful project. The Toy House will provide, through this project, the support and expertise to all our volunteers who undertake our ‘Volunteering for Success’ programme. This programme will enable our volunteers to grow in their personal confidence together with the opportunity to extend their skills in line with their specific needs while interacting and contributing, together with us, to support our work with families in the community.”

Trafford Housing Trust aims to invest £2million a year into projects that unite communities, tackle poverty and provide mentoring and skills with the aim of transforming lives. A proposed acquisition of Trafford Housing Trust by L&Q Homes will mean that a North West Foundation is created and community investment will double to £4million on completion in June 2016.
