UK Guarantor to offer free rent guarantor services to care leavers

A UK rent guarantor company is putting aside a proportion of its profits to help young care leavers who are going to university to study.

Students looking for accommodation at university will often be required to provide a guarantor for their rent. Many students will be able to use a parent or family member to fulfill this role. However, some students do not have anyone to offer such help and are asked to pay their rent in advance, which, very often, can be a barrier.

UK Guarantor, the UK’s leading rent guarantor service, originally launched its services for international students who are not able to provide rent guarantor because of their families living overseas. The company then expanded to include UK students and more recently working professionals.

While developing its services, UK Guarantor has been approached a number of times by social workers and universities, asking to help care leavers who are going to university.

For that reason, the company has decided to start putting aside a proportion of its profits to help such applicants.

Anyone leaving the care system to go to university and is in need of a rent guarantor will be able to use the company’s services for free.

There is no upper limit on the number of care leavers that can apply and receive support from UK Guarantor.

Nick Emms, UK Guarantor spokesperson, said: “We think that businesses should try and offer something over their core activities where possible. All business should relate closely to what the business does and address a genuine need.

“Young adults who are in the care system need support. Leaving the system aged 18 with little help is difficult, particularly when it comes to things like accommodation, which is increasingly expensive. And that’s why we need to step in and offer our support.”
