£1.6m veterinary service in the works for Wakefield

Chantry Vets is transforming a former office block in Wakefield’s Brindley Way into a hospital following outgrowing its current Alverthorpe premises.

The veterinary hospital is set to be one of the most high-tech facilities in the North of England, providing 24-hour care and an expansion of their advanced services.

Plans for the hospital include five consultation rooms, kennels, separate cat and dog wards and it will be able to house some of the most modern equipment such as a new CT scanner, x-ray machine and endoscope.

Work to transform the building starts this summer and is expected to be completed in early 2020.

Chantry Vets’ surgical director, Lisa Flood, said: “We are bursting out of the seams at our current site and desperately need more space to enable us to continue to provide the highest level of service and veterinary care.

“The new hospital will give us the opportunity to keep progressing and provide the best possible facilities.

“There will be huge benefits for the veterinary team as we will have more space in which to work and access to high-tech equipment. It will also benefit clients and their pets in the level of service we can provide.

“We have a talented team of vets and highly qualified nurses and, as well as first opinion work, we will be accepting referrals from neighbouring practices and other VetPartners practices.”

Chantry Vets is part of VetPartners, which is funding the new hospital. The new 9,000 sq ft Wakefield hospital is expected to create jobs for vets, veterinary nurses and receptionists.

Chantry Vets’ main surgery in Alverthorpe will become a branch surgery.
