Bat boxes and bee hotels for North Yate development
Local housebuilder David Wilson Homes has pledged to make its new development in North Yate its most wildlife-friendly yet.
The company has unveiled a wide range of initiatives at its Ladden Garden Village development, which will help to boost everything from birds and bats to hedgehogs and insects.
David Wilson Homes has protected existing natural hedgerows surrounding our developments - in turn preserving natural living environments for animals and insects.
The development’s show complexes feature bird and bat boxes to provide essential nesting areas. Fences have been left open to the hedgerow - allowing wildlife like hedgehogs, frogs, toads and newts to move easily through and around the garden.
David Wilson Homes has even installed bee hotels around its show gardens to encourage their pollination and give them somewhere safe to lay their larvae. There is also a ‘hogitat’, a hedgehog house.
The housebuilder has laid wildflower turf that is perfect for butterflies and other insects. Scented plants like honeysuckle, sweet box and viburnums attract butterflies and bumblebees so have been included in the show garden. The cornfield bed will also give all the pollinating insects an area to create a real buzz.
“This area offers an outstanding habitat for wildlife - as well as for humans,” said sales director, Louise Ware. “We want to ensure creatures of all kinds are the lucky beneficiaries of a brand-new home here.
“We think it’s crucial to think about our environmental impact when creating any David Wilson Homes development. And Ladden Garden Village is the perfect place for both humans and the natural world to call home.”
The five star housebuilder has worked with the RSPB on its Give Nature a Home initiative to provide wildlife with a head start at Ladden Garden Village.
