Cinema set for expansion after smashing crowdfunding goal
A North East independent cinema has exceeded its crowdfunding target to fund its upcoming expansion.
Jam Jar Cinema in Whitley Bay raised £17k during the fundraising campaign, exceeding its original goal by £2k.
The funds will go towards the expansion of the venue, including the installation of two additional screens, improved accessibility features, a lift and a community space.
Work has already begun on the cinema, with 45 brand new seats installed in the existing screening room this week.
Extension work on the building and the installation of a lift is due to take place in the autumn.
Jam Jar Cinema founder and managing director Dan Ellis commented: “We always knew we had an incredibly supportive community…but the speed in which we have raised our funds has blown us away.
“Being fully accessible has always been a priority for us, but until now we simply haven’t been able to facilitate everyone.”
He added: “Once the lift is installed this Autumn - we will finally be a cinema for everyone.”
