Community fund boost for local charity supporting the elderly
A local charity providing support for elderly people in the Calne area has benefitted from a local housebuilder’s donation.
Calne Community Day Centre has been chosen as one of the recipients of the David Wilson Homes Community Fund, which was launched earlier this year.
The David Wilson Homes Community Fund donates £1,000 each month to a charity or organisation which improves the quality of life for those living in the region. The new initiative is part of the company’s pledge to strengthen its ties with the areas in which it is building new homes.
The Calne Day Centre supports local elderly people who are otherwise isolated. The group gives members the opportunity to socialize and meet new people on a weekly basis as well as enjoy a two-course lunch cooked by one of the volunteers on the premises.
The Centre was founded 35 years ago and is now a registered charity with a committee of trustees.
Gill Kosmyryk, Calne Day Centre’s organiser said they really appreciate the help they have received from David Wilson Homes.
She said: “This fund donation will be used to pay for more activities for our members to enjoy, such as more music or interesting guest speakers.
“By providing support to our members on a weekly basis, we can help them to stay in their own homes for longer.”
Louise Ware, sales director at David Wilson Homes, said: “The Calne Community Day Centre is an excellent charity supporting elderly people in the local area. It is wonderful that we can provide this donation to a local charity supporting local people.”
The group meets every Monday, welcoming 20 members a week, on average. It is available to those living in Calne or the surrounding area.
