Sale Sharks kick off Rugby World Cup celebrations with Japanese-themed brunch
Sale Sharks Rugby Club and key partner, Together, hosted a Japanese-themed brunch in Manchester to celebrate the start of the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
The event took place on September 26, at Leaf on Portland Street in the city centre. It was attended by over 150 people, including many of the club’s current players and partners, along with Sky Sports presenter James Cooper.
Mark Cueto MBE, Commercial Director of Sale Sharks, co-hosted the event, which also involved a Q&A session with the club’s Director of Rugby, Steve Diamond and England international, Chris Ashton.
Some authentic, Japanese-influenced entertainment was provided by Tengu Taiko Drummers before guests turned their attention to a live broadcast of the England vs USA fixture, which saw England win 45-7.
Several Sale Sharks players made guest appearances at the event, offering their predictions for the tournament as well as their thoughts on the upcoming Premiership Rugby season.
Mark Cueto said: “It was fantastic to mark the beginning of the 2019 Rugby World Cup with an event like this, which enabled us to bring the club’s players together with our commercial partners and sponsors.
“A huge thank you must go to our friends at Together for helping us to arrange this brunch. The World Cup competition is always a massive occasion in rugby, often helping to drive more interest in the sport, so it’s great to bring people together to network and enjoy an England game at the same time.”
Specialist lender Together, based in Cheadle, has been a key Sale Sharks partner since 2017 and recently announced a two-year extension to its agreement, tying the two brands together until 2021.
Andrew Charnley, head of corporate relationships at Together, said: “This was a fantastic event that we were delighted to support, with some of the club’s top players and staff in attendance.
“We got to see some of the club’s star players, such as, Tom Curry and AJ MacGinty, in World Cup action for England and the USA respectively. This reinforces how good the current Sale Sharks squad is and highlights the national and international reach of the brand.
“We’re proud to be associated with the North West’s only Premiership Rugby side and are extremely excited to see how the 2019-20 Premiership Rugby season unfolds in the coming months.”
The event marks the start of the Business Club calendar for the upcoming season, which sees a series of events hosted by Sale Sharks for their wide network of corporate partners.
