Broadstone appoints Tracey Kitchen as Head of Compliance

Broadstone, the ‘Labour-as-a- Service’ staffing platform, has appointed Tracey Kitchen as Head of Compliance. This is a new role and has been created as Broadstone has experienced significant growth over the last year. One of Tracey’s primary objectives is to streamline vetting for workers registered to the platform, and to ensure compliance across the board.

Tracey has extensive experience in security, compliance, HR and vetting and has previously held positions at ICTS, OCS Group and G4S Secure Solutions. She was Head of Vetting at OCS Group for six years, and during her career she has worked across business disciplines including HR, learning and development, operations, customer service, recruitment and business process management. She is well versed in the challenges of vetting workers and will focus on ensuring all workers have the right checks and permits. Tracey also holds a CIPD Level 7 Advanced Diploma.

Compliance is a common concern for businesses recruiting temporary staff. It is vital to ensure any employees - temporary or permanent - have the appropriate right to work permits and that the relevant checks have been carried out and any licenses are up to date. For businesses that fall foul of the regulations, the penalties can be severe. For example, the Home Office can fine companies up to £20,000 per worker if the business in question has failed to undertake the correct right to work checks, or didn’t do them properly.

Tracey Kitchen, Head of Compliance at Broadstone, says: “Right to work can be a minefield for businesses that rely on temporary workers. Some permits expire and need renewing, others don’t. Some have certain conditions attached, others are more flexible. I’ve seen first hand the headaches this can cause for businesses that need to vet a significant number of temporary workers. I’m thrilled to join Broadstone and help the industry move away from its reliance on archaic and legacy processes which are prone to error. We’re helping businesses not only find the right temporary worker for the job, but also giving them peace of mind that any staff we supply have the right permits and relevant background checks.”

Tom Pickersgill, Co-founder and CEO of Broadstone says: “Compliance is such an important part of our industry and Tracey’s in-depth knowledge and expertise will help us continue to grow and expand into new geographies and sectors. Unfortunately our industry as a whole is still held back by outdated, legacy processes and many systems are no longer fit for purpose. We want to change that across the board - both in the way we identify the right worker through to the checks that happen behind the scenes.”
