Hollywood real estate firm sets scene for Dagenham film studio with multi-million pound deal
A Los Angeles real estate investment company has announced that it has signed a deal to build London’s largest production centre.
Hackman Capital Partners (HCP), has agreed a multi-million pound deal with Barking and Dagenham Council to set up the Eastbrook Studios complex.
The complex will consist of 12 sound stages and three acres of scene space, as well as offices.
Work is set to begin on the project next year, with ‘thousands’ of jobs expected to be created.
Darren Rodwell, council leader said: “Today we’re making history. Dagenham used to be famous for factories and Ford but in the future, we will be equally famous for making films.
“It’s not for the glamour or glory. It’s about bringing in thousands of jobs, providing education and training opportunities for local young people and giving people hope in these gloomy Covid times.
“I’m hugely proud to announce HCP as our partner. They are the right people at the right time. It’s the ‘reel deal’ for our borough, London and the UK.”
