‘Striking’ South Tyneside riverside development takes shape with planning application
A planning application has been submitted for a striking glass-fronted riverside office building in the North East.
South Tyneside Council and development partner Muse have submitted plans for the new development in South Shields.
Situated on former brownfield land in the Harton Quay area of the town, the building would comprise five storeys and provide 50,000 sq ft of office space.
The southern part of the site would feature a landscaped area leading down to the Grade II-listed Customs House and Harton Quays Park, linking to the town centre.
News of the submission follows the unveiling of the plans back in July 2020, which initially outlined proposals for a four-storey development.
Cllr John Anglin, lead member for regeneration and economy at South Tyneside Council, commented: “This is an exciting development in the regeneration of South Shields and our ambitions for Holborn.
“This stunning building would start the transformation of a vacant site into a bustling quarter, complementing the considerable investment that has already gone into this area, and strengthening the links between the riverside and the town centre.”
