Barnsley site acquired by national housebuilder for 116-home development
A UK housebuilder has acquired land for a new residential development in South Yorkshire.
Countryside has completed a land acquisition deal with Sir Robert Ogden CBE HON LLD for a site on the edge of Goldthorpe in Barnsley.
The development of 116 houses, located on the site of the former transport depot for Goldthorpe Colliery, will comprise a mix of two, three and four bedroom homes.
Preparatory works have now started on the 10.1 acre site following the council’s resolution to grant planning permission last year.
Chris Penn, managing director of partnerships - Yorkshire at Countryside, commented: “We are excited to be starting our fourth development within the region, however this will be the first time we have built our high specification homes in Barnsley.
“Our intention is to launch the site for sales in March when we will have a sales cabin onsite whilst we construct our new show homes.
“We have configured the development to enable a high proportion of first time buyers to take advantage of the government’s Help To Buy: Equity Loan scheme, whereby purchasers will only need a 5 per cent cash deposit to secure a mortgage.”
Phil Roebuck, partner and regional head of residential development at Cushman & Wakefield, who negotiated the sale on behalf of Sir Robert Ogden, added: “We are delighted to have concluded the sale of this significant site to Countryside which will deliver much needed family housing.”
