Birmingham change consultancy clocks up miles for local charity

Birmingham-based change consultancy, Entec Si, is supporting local charity, Thrive Birmingham, by walking, running, rowing and cycling the length of the UK. As well as raising much-needed funds and awareness of the charity’s vital work, the virtual John O’Groats to Land’s End (JOGLE) challenge reflects the business’ dedication to its people’s physical and mental wealth.

Since 15th March, 25 members of the Entec Si team have been taking part in the grueling 981-mile virtual journey. However, having already reached this milestone, the team has now pledged to go one step further by completing the return journey too – a total distance of around 2,000 miles.

So far, the team is on track to achieve its fundraising target of £400 for Thrive and has pledged to match individual donations up to the sum of £500. The team has completed over 408 exercise sessions, from rowing to dog-walking. However, a standout achievement has been made by senior consultant, Craig Eley, who has already clocked up over 355 miles through a combination of walking, running and cycling.

With centres across the UK, Thrive uses horticultural therapy to bring about positive changes in the lives of people living with disabilities or ill health, or who are isolated, disadvantaged and vulnerable. During Autumn of 2019, the Entec Si team rolled up their sleeves to help Thrive Birmingham rejuvenate its outdoor space at Kings Heath Gardens.

Anna Lane, senior consultant and CSR lead at Entec Si, commented: “For so many people, the pandemic has highlighted the importance of exercise and fresh air for maintaining physical and mental wellbeing. Taking part in the virtual JOGLE challenge has been a fantastic reason to get active in the great outdoors, while raising money and awareness for Thrive’s important work.”

Sarah Bowers, regional centre manager at Thrive Birmingham, said: “The Entec Si team should be very proud of their achievement and their support is hugely appreciated, particularly at what is a difficult time for many in our community. These funds will enable us to continue making a difference to those who need it most.”
