Expansion for North East flooring retailer with £200k investment in new Scotland store

A North East-headquartered flooring retailer is preparing to open its second Scottish store following a £200k investment.

Flooring Superstore, headquartered in Bishop Auckland, has taken on a 7,265 sq ft outlet in Glasgow’s Baird Street Business Park, becoming one of the firm’s largest stores in the UK.

The Glasgow shop takes the total number of outlets in the Flooring Superstore portfolio to 38, and the retailer is on course to reach its target of 50 stores by the end of 2021.

Shoppers visiting Flooring Superstore in Glasgow will have access to a wide range of flooring such as carpets, vinyl, laminate, real wood, vinyl tiles, EvoCore and the UK’s largest selection of artificial grass.

Greig Anderson, regional manager of Flooring Superstore, commented: “We have been planning a store in Glasgow for a while but have been waiting for the right location as we wanted a large unit on a busy retail park.

“We were therefore delighted when the site at Baird Street became available and now, we’re looking forward to opening and making our contribution to the city’s economy.

“We are in a unique position of being able to supply every type of flooring under one roof and to be able offer this at online prices, reflecting our origins as an ecommerce retailer.

“It’s hard to believe that less than ten years ago you could only buy our products online but now people can now also do this at 38 locations across the UK.

“Scotland is a key growth area for us so now having opened stores in Scotland’s two main cities, we are already actively looking at other locations across the rest of the country.”

As part of its corporate social responsibility programme, Flooring Superstore will be reaching out to local charities, voluntary organisations, or other good causes to see if they would benefit from donations of flooring for a particular project.

Greig said: “We feel it’s important to support the communities which support us by shopping at our stores, so we are looking forward to hearing from those who may benefit in the Glasgow area, whether it’s a charity, school or another organisation.”
