Thames riverfront development set to deliver 1,500 new homes gets green light
A new development set to create 1,500 new homes along the river Thames has been given the go-ahead.
The Royal Borough Greenwich’s Planning Committee has resolved to grant planning consent for the Morden Wharf development on the Greenwich Peninsula.
Led by regeneration specialist U+I, the mixed-use scheme will comprise 1,500 homes across 12 residential buildings, as well as over six acres of public realm including a landscaped park and a river beach.
U+I’s proposals will also deliver a mix of commercial and employment uses that are expected to create around 700 new permanent jobs, including commercial, retail and community use by SMEs and creative businesses.
Richard Upton, chief executive officer at U+I, commented: “We are delighted with the planning decision at Morden Wharf, providing a blueprint to deliver a distinctive mixed-use neighbourhood opening up 275 metres of Thames riverfront.
“This includes much needed new homes, innovative office and creative space, as well as beautiful green landscape and community space.
“Our scheme will support thousands of new jobs and deliver £42m of benefit to the local community each year.”
