134 new homes to be delivered at Northumberland site

A Northern independent property firm is offering to the market land at Northgate Hospital in Morpeth.

H&H Land & Estates is offering a 7.01 ha plot with outline planning consent for 134 housing units including 24 affordable homes.

The land for sale is set within the mature grounds of the operational redeveloping Northgate Hospital.

The development is part of hospital’s CEDAR programme (Care Environment Development and Re-provision).

The Cedar Programme’s £73m project includes the development of state-of-art medium secure facilities at Northgate Hospital, the re-provision of Newcastle and Gateshead adult inpatient services in Gosforth and the re-provision of adolescent medium-secure inpatient services at Prudhoe.

Tim Sedgewick, head of land agency for H&H Land & Estates, said: “This is an amazing opportunity for the development of highly sought-after housing, in an area that has seen unprecedented demand in recent times.

“I expect the sale to attract huge interest and we are excited to work with the NHS to ensure a successful sale.”

Tony Railton, CEDAR programme consultant, added: “The land sale at Northgate Hospital in Morpeth is just the latest in a long line of service innovations and investment by the Trust to ensure that service users have access to the latest state of the art facilities.

“It demonstrates the Trust’s commitment to regenerate and improve care and sees the latest investment in improving mental health services in the North of England.”
