Specialist manufacturing firm opens new office and creates jobs in Barnsley

A manufacturing firm that specialises in the early detection of leaks and the prevention of flood damage has moved to Barnsley as part of a strategy for growth.

Andel Ltd officially opened its new head office at Dodworth Business Park last week, where it can invest in growth and increase turnover from £5m to £8m over the next three years.

Founded in West Yorkshire in 1992, Andel designs and delivers products and services for safe and efficient fuel and oil storage, maintenance and interceptor waste and drainage.

Andel’s operations director Willem Lewis said: “We’ve found local talent to recruit to our new jobs and bring our workforce up to 60. We are now in a very good position to achieve our target of 25 per cent year on year growth for the next three years.”

Its specialist leak detection systems alert customers to breaches on their site and allow for action to be taken to reduce damage and disruption and to prevent potential pollution.

It also designs systems that pick up on early warnings of flooding and activate preventative flood defence measures, such as raising floodgates and walls, to protect customers’ properties and sites.

Lewis added: “Our R&D team have developed cutting edge products which are customised to meet the needs of each site and give customers peace of mind that they have systems in place to protect against flood damage.”

The new jobs are in manufacturing, digital technology, distribution, project management, sales and administration. Andel is also taking on two apprentices through the Kickstart scheme, who will develop skills in computer-aided design and estimator roles.

Cllr Tim Cheetham, Barnsley’s cabinet spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “It’s great to welcome an established manufacturing business like Andel to the borough and such good news that they’ve already created jobs and apprenticeship opportunities for local people”.

Enterprising Barnsley has also helped Andel move to the borough, make connections with local suppliers, recruit its vacancies and participate in the Kickstart programme.
