York city centre to receive new family housing

Plans for new family homes on a former industrial site in York city centre have been given the green light.

Lichfields has seen its scheme approved by the City of York planning department to deliver eight new homes in Lansdowne Terrace as part of plans for a mix of two, three and four bedroomed houses.

The new family houses will feature access to private gardens created on a deck above a parking area, on the site of the former WLD Textiles.

The existing commercial buildings and factory units will now be demolished to make way for redevelopment in a move that is likely to also create several jobs in the construction and associated supply chain.

Justine Matchett, planning director at the Newcastle office of Lichfields said: “Together with Carve Architecture, we have worked hard to deliver a high-quality, unusual residential design in an ideal location. It’s a significant boost for quality local housing provision and will undoubtedly contribute positively to an important part of York.”

“As planners, we want to see the creation of exciting and rewarding housing schemes in urban areas that leave a long-lasting legacy. This one will undoubtedly play a part in bringing positive change to this part of the city.”
