Architectural and energy consultancy turns “decarbonisation plans into reality”

As part of Bdaily’s coverage of Green Energy Week, we spoke with Hexham based multi-disciplinary architectural and energy consultancy d3associates, who has been focusing its recent efforts on the decarbonisation of properties around the country.

In North Yorkshire, the consultancy is working on decarbonisation plans for up to 30 community led buildings, ranging from village halls and sports centres to museums and libraries, providing options appraisals and business plans for decarbonising their buildings, through a review of energy efficiency, heating systems, renewable energy generation and storage options.

Similarly, it has also been assisting a cluster of 20 Methodist Churches in Humberside to develop a viable pathway to Net Zero. The project, funded by the Rural Community Energy Fund, stems from the commitment made by the Yorkshire North and East District of the Methodist Church to become Net Zero by 2040.

D3associates also designed the Gateshead district heat distribution network, which stretches over 7km from The Sage and The Baltic into central Gateshead.

More recently the team was appointed by Energetik, the local energy company owned by Enfield Council, to undertake the concept design for the four phases of the Meridian Water Heat Network. Covering some 23km in length, the distribution network will supply low carbon heat and hot water to over 15,000 homes and businesses across North London.

The network will link together and significantly decarbonise all existing heat networks in the London borough of Enfield by connecting them to the upcoming Meridian Water energy centre.

Paul added: “This has been a tremendous boost for our business. We’ve recruited two new staff members since January to deal with the increased workload and now have plans to recruit three more engineers and technicians. As decarbonisation experts, it’s great to be making an impact by working on national schemes and flying the flag for the North East at the same time.”
