Hampshire ‘hospice at home’ service receives housebuilders’ support in 25th anniversary year

A charity in Petersfield celebrating 25 years of providing its ‘Hospice at Home’ service for patients suffering from cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, has received a £1,000 cheque from Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes.

The Rosemary Foundation, situated on Lavant Street in Petersfield, cares for thousands of patients and their families in Hampshire and West Sussex by providing a fully supportive, and free-of-charge, hands-on nursing service at home.

And, as part of Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund, which gives to worthy causes in the region, the charity has now received an important financial boost.

Wendy Smith, Fundraising Manager at The Rosemary Foundation, is thrilled to receive the housebuilders’ support in its 25th anniversary year, and has said it will help the charity keep up with growing demand.

She said: “Demand for our services continues to grow as more people choose to die at home rather than in a hospital or care home.

“This generous donation will mean we can continue to offer our services, free of charge, to individuals who need us within the community. On behalf of everyone here, we’d like to say a heartfelt thanks to Barratt and David Wilson.”

It was after the developers heard about the exceptional work that the Rosemary Foundation were doing, when they decided to step in and help.

Tammy Bishop, Sales Director at Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, Southampton Division, said: “The Rosemary Foundation is providing outstanding care for patients and their loved ones in the community, and when we heard about their work, we had to help. It’s a real pleasure to be able to hand over this donation.”

The Rosemary Foundation was founded in 1997 by a group of dedicated former staff members of the Bordean House palliative care unit and is fully funded from grants, donations and legacies. Hospice at Home is provided by a team of registered nurses and health care support workers experienced in palliative care and bereavement counselling. They are supported by admin, finance, and counselling teams.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund is a dedicated financial resource that helps to support local causes which improve the quality of life for those living in the region.
