Hampshire housebuilder digs deep for volunteer day Winchester children’s hospice charity

A Hampshire housebuilder laid down its building tools for a day this month to provide some vital volunteer support to Naomi House & Jacksplace in Winchester.

Barratt Homes, which is building new homes across the county, sent in a group of its apprentices to help out the children’s hospice charity on 7th June, and the assistance was extremely well received.

Naomi House & Jacksplace, located in Sutton Scotney, near Winchester, are hospices supporting life-limited and life-threatened children and young adults from Hampshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Dorset, the Isle of Wight and beyond.

The five-star housebuilder set eight of its volunteers to work on the hospices’ gardens, where they spent the day mowing lawns, pulling up weeds and clearing leaves and rubbish.

Helena Maskell, Volunteer Services Manager, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Barratt’s corporate volunteers to Naomi House and Jacksplace. The team did an excellent job and were all eager to hear more about how their work was helping to ensure we can provide a wonderful outdoor environment for our children, young people, and families. “On behalf of everyone here, I would like to them for their amazing support.”

Anthony Dimmick, Barratt Homes Community Liaison Manager is thrilled the housebuilder has had the opportunity to offer its volunteering help to such a worthwhile charity in the region.

He said: “We want to support organisations in the communities where we are building new homes, and Naomi House & Jacksplace is providing a remarkable service to people in the local area. It’s been a pleasure to be able to offer up our help.”

Both Naomi House and Jacksplace provide individualised care and much needed respite and support for children, young adults, as well as their families. Services include respite care, end of life care, bereavement support, emergency respite, and family support, and the care continues for as long as a family needs.

Naomi House first opened in 1997 to offer care and support to children who were not expected to live until adulthood. Jacksplace is the only hospice for young adults in the region, offering the care and support they need, but also giving them the independence they often crave.

Barratt Homes is bringing new homes across Hampshire. It is committed to supporting local causes which improve the quality of life for those living in the region, and its employees are all entitled to two days per year to take as volunteering days, so that they can work for a local charity of their choosing.
