Through the roof - soaring energy bills drive demand for conservatory specialist

Pressures from energy bills on the cost of living have seen one insulated conservatory specialist receive record levels of enquiries and sales as homeowners consider every angle to reduce heat wastage.

Ringwood-based Green Space UK, which specialises in transforming conservatories with insulated roofing panels, normally sees demand driven by the lack of use that traditional conservatories are often maligned for - too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter.

However, after a summer which saw the UK bask in a series of heatwaves, it is the energy crisis that has been driving the surge in demand at the family-run business - up 17% on this time last year - according to head of customer experience, Richard Carter;

The summer is always busy for us because whilst people spend more time outside, it can actually get too hot in the standard conservatory. It is a little like a very warm goldfish bowl! So their question is usually, can you make this room cooler so we can use it more?

Of course, the reverse is true in winter. It comes down to poor insulation really which is the route cause that we can tackle and transform without the need for planning permission.

The demand is such that Green Space UK is now recruiting to boost the number of fitters they have across the country, with 8 jobs up for grabs in the installation team and a further 4 jobs available in the surveying department, as co-founder Brennan Jacomb explains;

We were concerned about the impact of the cost of living crisis on discretionary spend and household improvements but the driver now is far more around saving cash versus increasing usage of the space.

By insulating a conservatory properly, homeowners can make major savings on their energy bills and also do their bit for the planet by not needing to whack up the heating as the days get cooler. In order for us to serve that demand we are once again recruiting to expand our talented team of fitters and surveyors here in Dorset and across the UK from our Warwickshire base.

Another beneficiary of the surge in sales at Green Space UK are local charities, with Green Space pledging £5 from every sale to a local good cause and also planting a tree for each new installation.

We’ve now raised over £7000 for local charities,’ concludes Brennan ‘and we’re closing in planting over 1000 trees. It is great to be giving something back to our local community and making a difference to the planet where we can as we continue to grow.
