Cleo appoints former Amazon product lead as vice president of product

As part of its ambitious growth strategy, Cleo has made a senior hire in Anita Woods, who joins the business as vice president of product. Cleo is a money app that supports people throughout their financial lives from their first paycheque to building credit for their first home.

Reporting directly to CEO Barney Hussey-Yeo and based in the London office, Woods is responsible for overseeing the product and user experience teams. She will lead Cleo’s product strategy and product roadmap post-Series C, as well as work closely with the vice president of technology to deliver world leading solutions that empower users to improve their financial health.

Woods brings over 15 years of experience to the role. She began her career at Bain & Company, Amazon and Google, where she honed her general management and product skills. She then took on product leadership at Zava and Wefarm where she built the product functions from scratch and launched new products including Wefarm’s online knowledge sharing platform for small-scale farmers in East Africa.

Speaking of her appointment, Woods said: “I’m excited to join Cleo to help people improve their financial health. Creating and delivering products that contribute to this is vital, now more than ever. I’m inspired by how driven everyone at Cleo is to make a positive change and excited by what we can achieve together.”

Barney Hussey-Yeo, CEO of Cleo, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Anita to the senior team here at Cleo. She brings a wealth of experience to the role and beyond that, she’s exactly what we look for in all our people - driven, energetic, collaborative and open-minded.”

The bolstering of its senior team follows a period of significant growth for the company, which was founded in 2016 and recently raised an $80 million Series C round in summer 2022. Cleo is currently recruiting positions at all levels with a focus on engineers and data scientists.
