Inaugural Gateshead networking breakfast promotes local business growth
The Jewish Community Council of Gateshead (JCCG) hosted its first-ever Business Networking Breakfast last month, as part of its economic development program aimed at supporting local people into employment, providing training courses, and promoting business and enterprise growth.
Over 60 attendees from various local businesses enjoyed a breakfast catered by Bloom’s, while networking and hearing a range of speakers including Sochi Jacobson, owner of waste management firm Wasted, and representatives from business support agencies Business Gateshead and Scaleup North East.
The event saw “a lot of positivity” from young people interested in starting their own businesses or scaling up their existing small business, but lacking the necessary knowledge and experience. Local businessmen offered their assistance and support to help these aspiring entrepreneurs.
The highlight was a Zoom appearance by keynote speaker Nick Wheeler, founder of the Charles Tyrwhitt clothing brand.

Nick shared his business journey, from starting out with a roll of fabric that he had turned into shirts by a factory, to the international success of the brand today, with stores located around the world. He also took questions from the audience.
One participant described the event as a “fantastic networking, great vibe and something the community has been waiting for. This gave me the invaluable opportunity to network with other local businessmen and learn from each other.”
Jonathan Klajn, project director at the JCCG, commented: “We are delighted that this inaugural event was well received by the Kehilla and we hope to build on its success to bring further opportunity to local people. The JCCG is grateful to the corporate sponsors who helped make the event a success.”
The event generated a lot of interest in business networking, with plans in the pipeline for similar events in the future.
