A New Year Boost for Local Charity

A South Shields charity, in memory of the Cookson brothers has received a donation from a local business, just in time for the New Year.

Zeera Cuisine restaurant in Ocean Road, South Shields held a series of raffles in the restaurant over the festive period in order to make a donation to a local charity in the New Year, to start 2023 on a positive note.

Late November, Zeera advertised for suggestions for a local charity that they could raise funds for on their social media channels and many suggestions came forward. A charity was chosen at random, and Charlie & Carter Foundation were the lucky winners.

During December, Zeera sold tickets to win Christmas and New Year hampers, as well as a Zeera DIY Curry Kit. The draws were made this week and the lucky winners were announced on social media, where a whopping £832 was raised, with the restaurant owners making up the total to £1,000.

Shah Choudhury, owner of Zeera said:

“All year round we like to provide for our local community and beyond, whether that be discounts for NHS workers, raising money for those less-advantaged, free meals for children during the school holidays as well as the Ukraine appeal, so this was just another way of saying thank you to our superb clients. They never let us down and always contribute wherever and whenever they can, and this was no exception!”

The Charlie and Carter Foundation (CCF) provides financial support to parents / guardians of seriously ill children with life-limiting conditions that require 24-hour nursing care or specialist nursing facilities.

Joanne Nicholson, Charity Manager at the Foundation said:

“We appreciate this kind donation so much and can’t thank Shah and his lovely team at Zeera enough. “It’s great to see local businesses supporting local charities and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to the fund-raising activities during the festivities. “We understand how difficult life can become when you have no choice but to reduce your working hours, or in some cases, leave your job, as a result of a child in your care requiring 24-hour support, so this will assist so much the families that rely on our help.”

The services of the Charlie and Carter Foundation are there to assist in paying the mortgage, rent, gas, electric, food vouchers as well as fuel for your vehicles during the time required looking after a child in need of 24-hour care and support.

The cheque presentation was made to Joanne Nicholson from the Foundation on this week @ Zeera Restaurant.
