GMI Construction Group Hosts Primary School Site Visit to Sheffield Digital Campus
Pupils from Sacred Heart School in Sheffield swapped their classrooms for a more unusual learning environment – after they were invited to tour a £27m city centre office development by GMI Construction Group.
The party of 10 and 11-year-olds were welcomed to Sheffield Digital Campus by Senior Project Manager Paul Hudson, who gave them a tour and talk on the eight-storey Endeavour building.
One of many site visits co-ordinated by GMI’s Responsible Business team, they are designed to create an interactive learning environment while enhancing youngsters’ understanding of real-world construction alongside important issues such as health and safety.
Katherine Clarke, a teacher at Sacred Heart School in Hillsborough, said: “Our pupils had a really brilliant time and gained a real insight into the construction industry. They were really enthused by the visit and talk and it’s learning that we can build upon back in the classroom.”
Paul Hudson added: “A school site visit can really inspire future generations to recognise the benefits and opportunities available from a career in construction.
“Such experiences are invaluable for a child’s development, and I was delighted to welcome the pupils and teachers from Sacred Heart to our site. They asked lots of great questions, and I know our site team enjoyed playing host!”
Endeavour, currently the biggest speculative office development underway in the city centre, will provide 65,000 sq. ft of BREEAM Excellent, Grade A space. It is the fourth and final building on the acclaimed Sheffield Digital Campus, all of which have been delivered by GMI Construction for leading property regeneration and placemaking specialist, Scarborough Group International (SGI).
Let in its entirety to global technology and telecoms firm, BT Group, Endeavour incorporates a range of enhanced wellbeing and sustainability measures, including club-class changing and shower facilities to promote active-travel, a greater provision of EV charging bays and a rooftop terrace offering panoramic views of the Steel City’s skyline.
