Local company Winn Group donates £30K to charity

A North East company has donated over £30,000 to 12 different charities to help both regional and national causes.

Legal firm Winn Group has committed itself to supporting charities as they embrace their causes, by providing resourceful and financial support. The company’s wide-reaching Corporate Social Responsibility programme is designed to engage with staff, help the local community, and support worthy causes, near and far.

The charitable efforts of the Byker-based company have inspired their employees to take an active role in raising money for those in need, with more than half the total funds raised being attributed directly to the efforts of staff themselves.

CSR Lead Ross Jackson said: “We are thrilled at the commitment from our workforce, having seen the highest level of staff engagement to date.

“This is terrific to see, and we’re keen to put on even more fundraising events throughout the coming year to further engage our employees and help to support even more amazing causes.”

Charities supported include The People’s Kitchen, MIND, Headway, Sunshine Fund, Football for Change, Disasters Emergency Committee, Children in Need and Save the Children.

Ross continues: “It’s tremendous to see so much going to so many good causes and hopefully we’ll top that in 2023.”

Other charitable efforts include the national accident specialist partnering with Greggs Foundation to deliver a popular breakfast club at busy Byker school St Lawrence’s Primary, to provide food and drinks for the children who attend, as well as donating more than £4,000 to local football teams.

Moving into 2023 the company has no plans to slow down. On target to turnover a staggering £200M in FY23, the company intends to expand its charitable offering even further to reach more amazing causes.

Ross adds: ‘We intend to support the hardship fund at St Martin’s Centre Partnership, a charity that supports families in the local community who are living in acute deprivation. The group will provide more than £2,000 to the centre to pay for specific essentials needed by families who ask for their help.

“We’re also doing a Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge for the Great North Air Ambulance Service, with 38 staff walking 26 miles with the aim of raising £10,000 for charity.”

The company also gifted a £500 payment to each of its employees to help support them through the ongoing energy crisis.

The rapidly expanding company has grown turnover from £54M in the previous year to just shy of £100M (£97.9M) in FY22.

The milestone figure is the biggest leap in annual turnover since the company was founded in 2002. This momentous achievement follows the introduction of Whiplash Reforms that have forced many competitors out of the market.

However, even with the Personal Injury sector in turmoil and the subsequent shrinking market, Winn Group has emerged triumphant and stronger than ever as rivals either decline, exit the market, or go bust.

The firm continues to go from strength to strength with ambitious growth plans and new commercial offerings, diversifying into new areas of law and winning new partnerships with some large name brokers in the insurance sector.
