£5.9m project to modernise hundreds of Thornaby homes

A £5.9m investment project will modernise hundreds of homes in Thornaby. Thirteen, who manage 35,000 homes across the North East, Yorkshire and Humber region, is working in partnership with Esh Construction, to deliver the plans.

The first phase of the project, which started on site this month will see around 150 residents living on the Holmes V estate in the town, benefit from £1.4m of home improvements, including new kitchens, electrical rewires and boilers.

The first phase of the project is due to be completed in the summer, with a second phase worth £4.5m to be carried out across the surrounding estate expected to continue over the next year, bringing improvements to a further 250 homes.

Thirteen’s partnership project manager Claire Atkinson said: “This is an exciting project, which will modernise these homes and make a big difference to our customers living on the estate.

“We began speaking to the customers a couple of months ago, in advance of the first phase of the project starting so they could find out what to expect. We also held an event in the local community centre, inviting them to come along and talk to the team and choose their kitchen, giving them the chance to personalise their home, and really make it their own.

“These improvements are important and bring many benefits, not only to modernise the homes, but to ensure they are energy efficient.”

The work is part of Thirteen’s plans to invest over £300m across almost 25,000 homes within 15 local authority areas in the next five years.
