Bupa UK launches ground-breaking mental health proposition for businesses

Bupa, the leading private healthcare insurance provider, has launched a ‘ground-breaking’ new mental health proposition for businesses, the Workplace Mental Health Advantage.

Focused on early intervention and helping employees to maintain good mental health, the Workplace Mental Health Advantage is an integrated service that supports mental health in a connected way, supporting people at every step, which offers:

  • Advanced data analytics that can help businesses understand the impact of mental health and plan effective interventions.

  • Refreshed wellbeing engagement services built using behavioural insights to help build a more resilient workplace.

  • Partnering with JAAQ to offer businesses a customised set of innovative wellbeing services and tools for the workplace.

  • Digital access to a mental health therapist within 10 days for all members.

Bupa have also launched a series of pilots to continue the evolution of their Workplace Mental Health Advantage proposition:

  • An integrated mental health service incorporating EAP and PMI to deliver a simpler and more connected experience.

  • A new coaching service for employees that helps them build resilience and supports a culture of early intervention.

Richard Norris, general manager of Business and Specialist Products at Bupa UK Insurance said: “Many employers increased their focus on mental health in response to the pandemic and are now looking to better support their people and manage costs with a focus on improving resilience by better adoption of preventive services.

“Across Bupa there is a huge amount we can do to help employers and our new Workplace Mental Health advantage brings all together into one package of services that will help reduce the burden and make it easier to improve the culture of wellbeing in their organisation”.

This ease of access is clearly important, as data from the Bupa Wellbeing Index showed that nearly one in five employees (18 per cent) were unsure about how to access mental healthcare through their work healthcare insurance policy.

A focus on employee mental health can act as a powerful tool in winning the war on talent recruitment and retention. The Index showed that 39 per cent workers of employees would be less likely to move jobs if they had access to good mental health support via work.

Richard Norris continued: “Encouraging employees to invest the time to manage their wellbeing can be difficult, so I’m delighted we are bringing our data analytics capabilities with our expertise for behavioural insights together with our award-winning health awareness events and innovative new coaching service to help businesses plan and deliver initiatives that will make a difference.”
