Newcastle Building Society holds record breaking member events

Newcastle Building Society welcomed a record number of people to a series of spring customer events, sharing its 2022 highlights and listening to the views of its members. As well as large-scale events at Wynyard Hall, Teesside, and Linden Hall,

Northumberland, the Society recently held smaller-scale engagement sessions at Cramlington Community Centre and Headlam Hall, County Durham. In total, more than 350 members attended the events, which culminated in the Annual General Meeting at its Cobalt Park headquarters.

Each event was an opportunity for members to hear an update from chief executive Andrew Haigh, ask questions, and provide feedback and present the opinions that will help to shape the Society’s future plans.

Newcastle Building Society, which is owned by its members, serves its communities through a network of 31 branches throughout the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria. Last year it opened a new branch in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, a town which had recently lost its last bank, and welcomed more than 15,000 new Members through its mortgage and savings product ranges.

The Society also contributed over £544,000 to its community during 2022, comprising grants, match funding, and ongoing partnership donations.

Michael Conville, acting chief customer officer at Newcastle Building Society, said: “It’s been fantastic to meet so many members over the last few weeks. There is a clearly a growing and genuine interest in how the Society is delivering on its Purpose and how we’re making a real impact across our communities.

“We were blown away by the demand across all our events, particularly the bigger events at Wynyard Hall and Linden Hall, demonstrating that people all over the region are passionate about their Society and being part of the conversation to shape its future.

“I’m grateful for everyone who gave up their time to come to the events, and who are helping us gain a deeper level of understanding of their priorities and challenges in order that we can become an even better building society that is truly powered by purpose.”
