Newcastle based Winn Group to create 100 new jobs as turnover doubles to £235m

Winn Group, which employs more than 530 people, has launched a 100-head plus recruitment drive following an increase in turnover of 139 per cent to £235m in 2022/23.

An exceptional year sees the Newcastle based group’s EBITDA surpass the previous year’s £15.8m, currently standing at £24.7m.

Local job opportunities span roles business-wide as the company welcomes applicants with a variety of skills ranging from customer service to legal professionals. Winn Group is made up of a number of brands, including Winn Solicitors, On Medial, On Hire, Winns Wills and Winns National Accident Specialists.

The company aims to further accelerate growth with ambitious plans to increase headcount to 700 in the next 12 to 18 months, as it racks up new contract wins and partnerships with some impressive names in the insurance sector.

Executive chairman and founder Jeff Winn said that, following a successful year, the business is “well placed to achieve its growth ambitions”.

Chief executive Chris Birkett commented: “Our continued growth has been driven by our commitment to being a trusted business partner delivering an exceptional service to our clients. We are proud of our role in the local community and when we grow as a business, that success is shared with the many good causes we support.”

The company is partly owned by the Souter Charitable Trust, meaning its success directly benefits the trust and its causes. In March 2023, the Souter family significantly increased its holding, which now stands at 43 percent.

Chris continued: “We are a leading employer in Newcastle, and we have plans to increase the number of employees to around 700 over the next 12 to 18 months. This will be a significant boost to the local employment prospects for people living in and around the area.”

Jeff Winn said: “We have witnessed rapid changes to the legal landscape, particularly the substantial reduction in fees brought about by changes in legislation. At Winn we have embraced the change and focussed on delivering comprehensive in-house services that go beyond legal support.

“This approach has proven successful, as evidenced by our strong financial performance. We want to build on this great year and grow our business most likely through organic growth, but if an acquisition opportunity came along that strengthened our business, we would consider it.”
