Historic Harrogate hotel undergoes “stunning” multi-million-pound renovation
A multi-million-pound renovation of a well-known Edwardian hotel in the heart of Harrogate town centre, has been completed, with “stunning” results.
Formerly called the St George Hotel, the sandstone building on Ripon Road has been revamped and renamed The Harrogate Inn by its new owners, The Inn Collection Group, which acquired the hotel last year.
Silverstone Building Consultancy project managed the renovation of the 96-bed hotel which included moving the main entrance to a more prominent position on the property and adding grand, statement, stone steps leading up to it.
The refurbishment has created two new bars and restaurants, which feature outdoor drinking and dining areas and six new, executive bedroom suites on the ground floor. The roof and external elevations have been renewed and repaired, a new kitchen installed and much of the interior repainted. The hotel, which was built in the late 1800s, reopened in July.
Tom Wright, senior chartered building surveyor at Silverstone Building Consultancy’s Leeds office, commented: “The works programme has gone really well and the new bars, in particular, are looking very impressive.
“This is our fifth refurbishment for The Inn Collection Group and following our initial appointment as project manager and principal designer, our remit was extended to include the contract administration, which is testament to the strength of our ongoing partnership.”
The principal contractor for the fit-out was Corby based 7formation.
Louise Stewart, property director at The Inn Collection Group, added: “We’re thrilled with how this renovation has turned out. The hotel has been sympathetically restored in the proven style of The Inn Collection Group and will be a great asset to the town.”
Silverstone Building Consultancy, a firm of chartered building surveyors and project managers with offices in Leeds, London and Newcastle, has previously managed the restoration of a number of hotels within the Inn Collection Group’s portfolio, including Ripon Spa Hotel and the former Park Hotel, Tynemouth.
