Wombwell Hall Care Home Receives Special Visitor to Enlighten Residents and Share Unique School Project

Wombwell Hall Care Home in Dartford was delighted to host a unique visitor, 9-year-old Layla, who brought a special energy and youthful perspective to the residents during a school inset day. Layla visited the care home accompanied by her nanny, Operations Director Clare Swan, and spent an engaging day interacting with the residents and lending a helping hand to the activities coordinator.

Layla’s visit not only brightened the day of the residents but also helped facilitate a generational bridge, offering both the young and old a chance to learn from and appreciate each other’s experiences. The highlight of her visit was creating her school project, ‘The Dangers of Rivers’, to the elderly residents.

The project offered a unique discussion topic for Layla and the residents. Some even playfully shared their insights, one resident remarking, “Don’t go putting your toes into the river water; the pike will bite them off.” The residents enjoyed giving their views on the topic, and Layla was thrilled to have their unique input for her project.

Perhaps the most awe-inspiring moment for Layla was the opportunity to converse with individuals who were more than ten times her age. She was left astonished by the fact that she was able to interact with people aged 101 and 108. “She thinks a 15-year-old is old,” Clare Swan shared, “Speaking to someone over one hundred has given her bragging rights. She just couldn’t believe it.”

Layla’s visit serves as a testament to the rich, intergenerational learning experiences that Wombwell Hall Care Home encourages. It is a place where different generations can learn from one another, making it a vibrant community hub.
