Barnsley manufacturer to open Ukraine office and support Ukrainian recovery

A Yorkshire based developer of specialised leak detection and environmental protection systems, Andel, has signed the Ukraine Business Compact to support the reconstruction of post-war Ukraine and initiated plans to open an office in Ukraine.

By signing the compact, Andel commits to supporting the recovery and working with Ukraine based companies, investing where appropriate and supporting development and economic growth. And the Barnsley based company has also gone one step further by seeking to set up a subsidiary in the country.

Andel believes that having a Ukrainian office established before the war ends means when the rebuild of the community commences, it will be fully prepared to be able to offer goods and services to the people. The manager of Andel’s Dutch subsidiary, Olga Surovtseva, who is Ukrainian, is guiding the team on the most appropriate location to open an office.

Andel MD, Peter Double, commented: “I am honoured to be part of the international community that is banding together in support of Ukraine’s recovery. We believe that we will be able to bring positive, sustainable solutions to Ukraine in the efforts to rebuild and thrive.

“In our efforts, we will, of course, adhere to the four core principles in supporting long-term sustainable economic recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine: to invest and behave sustainably, act responsibly, implement best practices and respect all legislation to make sure Ukraine has the best possible chance of recovery.”

The company has a long history of supporting Eastern Europe. Last year seven Andel volunteers drove to Poland to personally deliver five tonnes of humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

As well as its charity work and sustainability focus, Andel is known for its innovation. Last year, the Lord Mayor of Leeds welcomed Andel to the University of Leeds Nexus Innovation Hub and the company won the Manufacturing Innovation at the Made in Sheffield awards.

Andel has previously won the Queen’s Award for Innovation and was cited as one of the success stories of the 2012 London Olympics – installing and commissioning several leak detection systems in the main stadium, the white-water canoe course, and the Olympic village.

Andel has also installed its Floodline system in “prestigious” London buildings including the Shard, the Houses of Parliament, the O2, the ‘Walkie Talkie’ building and Canary Wharf.

As well as its flood alert and defence systems, Andel is responsible for oil storage, fuel maintenance, sampling, and inspections at more than 50 per cent of all NHS trusts in England and two years ago pledged to go carbon-zero by 2025.
